Dining
has more restaurants per capita than any other city in the state of Virginia, with more than six hundred and sixty dining establishments located within fifteen miles of the city center. These range from family fare to fine dining, and offer ethnic and regional specialties that could hardly fail to satisfy. Surprising as it may be to find superb South American cuisine in western Virginia, r Magazine’s reader polls consistently list Carlos Brazilian International Cuisine on Electric Road as the top restaurant in town. Another favorite is The r Restaurant on Colonial Avenue which continues its more than half a century of tradition serving home style southern cooking, such as grits, red-eye gravy, ham, breads, and seafood in a hospitable environment for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Paradox on Market Street is known for live music seven days a week and a menu that features southern and Mediterranean specialties. Awful Arthur’s Seafood on Campbell Avenue is a very casual place to enjoy high quality, fresh seafood as you like it, including a tremendously well-stocked and expertly operated raw bar.
